Alexander Cup 2012 ranking instruction

Teams are divided into pools by the toss. In a pool 2 sets are played until scoring 15 points. Team scoring 1 point wins and scoring 0 point loses a set. Pool rank is determined by the score; or by tie-breaking set if the 2 teams score equal; or by points ratio if the tie-breaking set ends in a tie. If 3 and more teams score equal, the winner is determined by

1)      tie-breaking set

2)      points ratio

3)      the toss

Pool matches are followed by intermediate matches – 1 set until scoring 25 points, which classifies teams by results.

Quarter-finals:

I pool 1^st place – VIII pool 2^nd place

II 1^st - VII 2^nd

III 1^st - VI 2^nd

IV 1^st - V 2^nd

V 1^st - IV 2^nd

VI 1^st - III 2^nd

VII 1^st - II 2^nd

VIII 1^st -I 2^nd

Winners continue with semi-finals, where 1 set is played until scoring 25 points.

Winning teams compete for 1^st to 4^th place, losing teams for the 5^th to 8^th place.

Next stage involves 2 sets until scoring 15 points.

The rest of the losing teams in quarter-finals will play for the 9^th to 12^th and 13^th to 16^th place, the result is determined by points ratio.

Teams ranking 3^rd in a pool play for positions 17- 20 and 21- 24.

Teams ranking 4^th in a pool play for positions 25- 28 and 29- 32.

Teams ranking 5^th in a pool play for positions 33.- 37.

The best 2 teams of the final group (ranking 1^st to 4^th) will compete for the first place “the best of three”, the 3^rd and 4^th place are ascertained in the course of the tournament, and there will be no separate match. On Saturday the teams ranking 1^st to 4^th will play on indoor court, the rest of the teams on both indoor and outdoor courts.

Traditional competitions for the title of the best shooter and the best hitter will be held on Saturday.

The first referee has the right to make changes in the instructions according to the number of teams registered.
